[ Focus on Sustainability ]

We welcome your feedback

Unquestionably “sustainability” has arrived … as a belief, a lifestyle, a way of doing business, and a one-word expression for doing the right thing. It’s a daily commitment to ensure vital resources for the future, and one taken seriously at PCC. Not always an easy path to follow, it’s worth every step and even misstep. We invite you to join us along the way.

For more than 55 years PCC has led by example in its operation as a sustainable business. Examples abound in the quality, purity and sourcing of our products; the vitality of our employees; the energy efficiency, waste management and air quality of our stores; our community outreach programs, and even our reusable shopping totes. Additional proof is in the organizations we choose as partners and the efforts we choose to support.

Findings from a recent informal survey about PCC’s sustainable efforts tell us we’re doing what our members want, they just want more of it. More than 91 percent said they want PCC to sponsor more “green” events and to provide more “green” information. PCC members want to know more about (in rank order) PCC involvement in sustainable agriculture, waste reduction practices, eco-friendly building features, sustainable transportation and sponsorship of food packaging work parties in support of partner food banks.

Four out of ten members said they want to learn more about PCC’s efforts as a sustainable business, and what more they can do to be sustainable consumers, in a PCC electronic newsletter. Through PCC Fresh we’ll do just that, and we invite you to read along. We also invite questions, comments and suggestions about topics covered and will make every effort to respond to them in future issues.

Enjoy PCC Fresh … and let us know your thoughts about sustainability … in your lives and in our stores. And thanks for joining us.
